Every woman has her own individuality. A major part of this individuality comes from personality. Personality comes from a combination of self confidence, the clothes you wear, and of course, the physique you have. For a woman, this image gets shattered when she learns that she has breast cancer. While the word 'cancer' can scare many, you would be slightly relieved to know that breast cancer is one of the least dangerous forms of cancers. Each breast has various tissues. Each tissue is attached to the muscle. A part of the breast extends to the armpit. The cancer occurs when there is some unwanted mass growing and which spreads, also called as cancer.
Now what is Cancer?
Cancer is a type of disease of the cells in the body. The lump that is formed is called as tumor. It can occur anywhere in the body as the body is made of many tiny tissues and cells. Where the tumor is found in the body part, the cancer of that part is diagnosed.
The cancer cells multiply and are abnormal in nature. They spread out of control.
A tumor is an unwanted tissue growth inside the breast cells. It is believed that there are two types of tumors,malignant and benign. Malignant cells are cancerous cells and benign tumors are non-cancerous. These tumors think that our body is their home and can stay as long as they can by spreading inside the body and making colonies and destroying the body from within. So if not detected early then really, they can create havoc inside the body.
What is Breast Cancer?
Breast Cancer is a type of cancer caused to the cells and tissues inside the breasts. It is one of the most common cancers. Around one in 9 women develop Breast Cancer. This disease is caused after the age of 50 or so. But sometimes even younger women suffer from Breast cancer. Breast Cancer can also occur in men, but very rarely.
There are sub types of Breast cancer as follows: Invasive and Non- invasive.
Invasive breast cancer means when a tumor has grown from within a duct or lobule. They are malignant tumors and spread as fast as they can. If diagnosed early then much can be achieved with less pain. Non invasive , when the cancerous cells are still in a duct or lobule. They are called Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS). A carcinoma in situ is easier to treat.
Receptors Positive
Some cells of the breast have receptors , which allows hormones to attach to the cancer cell. The types are :
Hormones : Female hormone called Estrogen is found receptor positive.
HER2: Some breast cells have receptors for a protein named HER2.
Causes of Breast Cancer
It is most important to know how a cancer in the breast develop. A cancerous tumor starts from one abnormal cell. There is no exact reason as to why cancer develops in the breast or any part of the body. This is unclear to the Doctors even. They think that something wrong in the cells develop and unwanted cells start growing and cancer develops.
According to recent news, it is stated that if the cancer is due to hereditary, then genes such as BRC1 and BRC2 are responsible for the cancer and now that there are NINE genes that are responsible for breast cancer.
What are the symptoms of Breast Cancer
To make sure about the symptoms of the breast cancer, you have to first self examine your breasts. This is called as Breast Self Exam.
Usually first symptom is lump in the inner side of breasts. It is believed that not all lumps in breasts are cancerous. Most of them are fibroid or cysts. However, it is most important to consult your doctor or Oncologist as soon as you feel changes in your breasts.

- Dimpling of the skin on the breast.
- Inverted nipple.
- Discharge from the nipple, which is very rare.
