Diagnosis of Breast Cancer:
Before you are sure about the lump in the breast may be cancer, by breast self examination, then you proceed to take an appointment of Oncologist, who is a cancer specialist.
Initially, when you consult your Oncologist after finding lump in your breasts, then the doctor will examine your breasts and he will tell you to go through some tests. Doctor will also examine your armpit area to know whether it is spread towards that area.
Tests include Mammography, Biopsy, Ultrasound scan, MRI scan of the breasts.
If you have been detected positive for breast cancer, then your Oncologist will do a surgery which may be lumpectomy or mastectomy, depending upon the severity of the cancer.
Lumpectomyis an operation of the breasts to removal of the tumor and some parts of the lymph nodes as per the malignancy. In this the breast is conserved and only the tumor is removed.
Mastectomy is an operation or the surgery in which the whole breast is removed, as in this case, the tumor has spread and in a very later stage.

- Mammogram is a test that uses special X-Rays of the breast tissue which may indicate tumor. It is just like a X-ray picture of the breasts, similar to normal x-ray picture.
- Biopsy is a test that when a sample of the tissue of the breast is removes and examined under a microscope. This test confirms the cancer. While doing Biopsy, your doctor injects a needle in to the lump and takes a small tissue from the breast area. This is sometimes painful as the doctor doesn't use anesthesia for this test. It is a very painful process. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a type of biopsy done to get the sample tissue of the tumor. It is done by piercing the needle in the tumor inside the breasts and without any anesthesia. It is very painful.
- After the sample tissue is taken from the tumor, it is sent for examination in a Research center.
